Hardship Leave Requests

Hardship requests are an opportunity to help fellow classified employees who have used up all their sick leave and vacation leave and require additional time due to a personal health issue or time to devote to a family member’s health issue.

How can I help?

By donating some of your vacation time or comp time. You need to fill out a Hardship Leave Request form (see below) and send it to Jennifer Short at OSU-Human Resources, 122 Kerr Admin. Bldg., 541-737-3609. If you have questions, please call or e-mail Donna Stevenson, 541-737-4381, donna.stevenson2@oregonstate.edu.

You can get the one-page form Donate Leave (Hardship Request) from the OSU OSCAR website at https://oscar.oregonstate.edu/. Click on Downloadable Forms, scroll down to Donate Leave (Hardship Request), fill out the form and print it out, sign the form, and send it to Jennifer Short.

And don’t forget — if you have to be off work for medical reasons for yourself or for your family, and you meet the stipulations of the contract, you, too, can apply for hardship leave.

Also, remember that FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) rights protect your job and your health insurance coverage while you are out — check with the OSU Employee Benefits Office at 541-737-2805 (employee.benefits@oregonstate.edu), for details.

How can I have the union send a Hardship Request to OSU classifieds?

The first thing you do is contact Donna Stevenson, 541-737-4381, donna.stevenson2@oregonstate.edu. She will confirm that you have an account set up to receive the donated leave. Then we can e-mail a hardship request to all classified employees.
